Underground Storage Tank (UST) Investigations
Clients of GHD include Environmental Engineering firms. Verifying the existence of USTs (or lack thereof) is accomplished with two main technologies, Magnetic and GPR.
A site can be scanned for large metallic anomalies with the magnetic approach (for metallic tanks), then followed up with GPR imaging for verification. Metallic USTs will generate a distinctive image profile.
The GPR imaging approach can also delineate where an excavation has occurred and dissimilar non-native soils have been backfilled. This type of investigation is typical for Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments and assists with Tank Closure Assessment Reports (TCAR).
